Abstract Metacognitive skill is regarded as what people know about cognition and their own cognitive processes as well as how they use this knowledge to adjust their informational processes and behaviour to specific situations. This skill has huge potential in language learning performance due to awareness of the learning process and use of learning strategies flexibly and efficiently. In spite of its importance, language learners are poor at metacognitive skills since teachers merely concentrate on encouraging cognitive ones. This paper aims to analyze the benetifs and procedures of inquiry based learning in English classes. The learning procedures of this model are asking, investigating, creating, discussing, and reflecting. In the asking phase, learners pose meaningful questions. Learners gather information for the investigating phase. Leaners, furthermore, begin to make connections and formulate explanation. In the discussing phase, learners share findings and make conclusions. In reflecting, learners reflect on the conclusions and form the links to explanations. Through inquiry based English learning, teachers could promote learners? linguistic, critical thinking, and social skills simultaneously. Keywords: Metacognitive Skill, Inquiry, English Learning
