Abstract In communication, it is needed a tool to help us to understand the idea from communication among the participant. To know what the speaker is talking about, the speaker?s goal in the conversation for example. Pragmatics is the study of language which is able to analize the idea not only from fonology, morphology, the sentence structure (sintaxis) and word meaning (semantic) but also find the meaning by searching the context; who is talking to whom, what objective, in what situation etc. According to Indonesia Ministry of Education?s policy (Permen no: 75/2009) about competence parameter in English lesson for Vocational School (SMK) in national examination states the student must have ability to know the expression of compliment, complaint, suggestion and order in short-dialoque also who to know how to respond it. While they do it, they should learn something else; politeness strategy. Aspect of politeness can be found in pragmatics studies. We can see the details actually in teaching-learning process by using film as a audio-visual media. Whereas by this approach the student?s motivation can effectively be increased. The problems are then formulated as follows: (1) How the politeness aspect can be applied in learning and teaching English? (2) What function of politeness which can be applied in learning and teaching? And (3) Is Teaching-learning activity bu using media?short film? effective for student in vocational school? This paper is aimed at revealing and observing the pragmatics application in English Lesson in vocational school by using media, actually describing the cooperative principles (leech 1986). The last achievement is the student can express compliment andcomplaint politely. This paper describes it by using pragmatic perspectives. It is hoped that it will increase the student?s motivation in learning English theoretically and practically. Keywords: pragmatics, politeness, cooperative principle, film.
