Consultant: Ismawati Ike.N, S.S.M.Hum Key words: Effectiveness, Vocabulary Mastery, Frayer Model, Junior High School. English teachers play an important role in improving students? vocabulary. They have to create appropriate technique which can facilitate the students to understand the vocabulary easily. One technique is using Frayer Model to teach vocabulary for Junior High School. Based on the statement above, the purpose of this study is to know whether using Frayer Model is effective to improve students? vocabulary for students of Junior High School or not. The study is called experimental research. The population of this research is the seventh grade students of SMP N 33 Purworejo in the academic year of 2012/2013. Population of this research is 220 students. Sample of this research is two classes which are divided into control (VII B, 31 students) and experimental group (VII A, 31 students). The sampling technique which is used is a purposive sampling. To collect the data, the writer used tests as the instrument. There were pre-test and post-test. Pre-test is conducted before the writer gives a treatment to the students. Post-test is conducted after the writer gives a treatment to the students. The type of the tests is a multiple choice tests which consist 20 questions in each test. After analyzing the data, the writer concludes that the result of t-value is 3.22. Based on the 0.05 significant levels, the value of t-table is 2.000. The result of computation shows that t- value is higher than t-table.That is 3.22 > 2.000. Another fact shows that the method used is effective. It is shown by the mean of experimental group that is higher than the mean of control group. In the experimental group, the mean is 75.48. On the contrary, the mean of control group is 67.74. Based on the result finding, it can be concluded that using Frayer Model is effective to improve students? vocabulary. The writer hopes that the result of this study will be useful for students, teacher and headmaster who ever involve in education field. English teacher should pay attention to the technique and should prepare technique to support the teaching learning process. So, their English ability will increase.
