Key words : Flouting maxim, Cooperative principle, Implicature. A good communication occurs if both of the speaker and hearer are able to understand what they mean. Communication needs the efficiency of delivering contribution of information that is easier for the speaker and the hearer. Grice introduced the theory of Cooperative Principles which human being follows to ensure successful communication. The theory consists of four maxims, namely maxim of quality, maxim of quantity, maxim of relation, and maxim of manner. This research analysed the kind of maxim, the implicature, and the intention of the speaker in flouting the maxim in the movie ?The Dark Knight Rise?. In conducting the research, the researcher uses a descriptive qualitative method. The data are taken from the dialogues in the movie and they are explained descriptively. The steps of colleting data are watching the movie, downloading the script, taking the utterance, and giving a code for the data. To analyse the data the researcher follow some procedure. The procedure are describing the data in form of dialogue, describing the context , analyzing the maxim, analyzing the implicature and analyzing the intention. The result of the data analysis showed that the the flouting maxim is dominated by the maxims of quantity. It flouted 22 times or 61%. It flouts by giving more or less informative information. The maxim of relation flouted 6 times or 17%. It flouts by giving irrelevant response. The maxim of Quality flouted 4 times or 11%. It flouts by giving untrue information. The maxim of manner flouted 4 times or 11%. It flouts by giving ambiguous and not brief information. The results show that the speaker flouted the maxim to prompt the hearer to look for the imlicature in their utterance. The implicature is related to the context situation. A different context could make a different implicature. Finally the researcher hopes this research will be useful for the student to enrich the student knowledge on Pragmatic. It is suggested for the teacher to give the student more knowledge about maxim to enrich their ability in communication. The researcher also hopes to another researcher to continue the study of maxim in a different object.
